Unlock the Power of Expert Advice!
Google recently announced its next-generation AI model, Gemini 2.0, which is currently being tested to improve AI Overviews in Google Search. According to Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai, Gemini 2.0 will revolutionize the search experience by handling more intricate topics, multi-step inquiries, and advanced tasks like complex math equations, coding, and multimodal queries.
Better AI Overviews for Complex Queries
Sundar Pichai pointed out that the AI Overviews feature, using Gemini 2.0, can actually answer with better, more precise answers to users about more challenging questions. It has been trained just to do complex problem solving, allowing it to do a lot of tough work such as advanced mathematics and multi-step procedures. The result is that faster, more elaborate answers will come for a number of complex inquiries.
Testing and Broader Rollout Plans
The AI Overviews are under limited testing via Gemini 2.0 but will be opened up to broader release early in the following year. Google’s plan is for gradual expansion, increasing this feature to more countries and languages this year 2025, meaning it will have a global access.
Sundar shared in a social post, “We’re testing Gemini 2.0’s advanced reasoning capabilities in AI Overviews to tackle more complex and multi-step questions, and we plan to roll it out widely next year.“
AI’s Transformative Impact on Google Search
Sundar Pichai said that no product has been more transformed by AI than Google Search itself. With AI Overviews already reaching a billion people, this feature is one of the most popular in Search history. The ability to ask entirely new types of questions has reshaped how users interact with Google, providing them with smarter, more relevant search results.
Spotting the Difference: Gemini 1.0 vs. Gemini 2.0
Users and SEOs may find it challenging to distinguish between AI Overviews powered by the former Gemini 1.0 model and the updated model of Gemini 2.0. Still, as more experiments happen and the rollout continues, watchful SEO eyes are invited to look out for a change in behavior that might be told about changes in how Google Search processes complex queries.
